Merida is the capital and most populated city of the state of Yucatan, Mexico. It is located in the homonymous municipality that is in the Metropolitan Influence Zone or Region VI of the entity. It is located 1318 km from the capital, Mexico City. The city was founded on January 6, 1542 on the remains of the Mayan city called T’Ho, which was virtually uninhabited when Europeans conquered the Yucatan peninsula. The city hass influences from Mayan, Spanish, French, British and Dutch cultures.
