Mahahual is located on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, about 55km from the 307 Cancún-Chetumal Federal Highway. It belongs to the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, and its name comes from a family of trees typical of the area. It is located near the Marine Park “Arrecifes de Xcalak”, along with Río Huach, Bacalar and Chetumal. One of Mahahual’s main attractions is its proximity to Chinchorro Bank, a coral atoll declared a nature reserve, and the second largest barrier reef in the world (after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia). This reef is located in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Quintana Roo and Belize, and has an enormous biodiversity, extremely attractive to dive in it. Likewise it is surrounded by great extensions of virgin forest.
